2009 FAQ

 FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

  • When will I hear from my child's coach?

Answer:  You can expect to be contacted approximately the second week in July by your child’s coach. Opening Day is scheduled for August 1, 2009.

  • Why have fees increased?

Answer:  Many of our operating costs have gone up including field rental, field maintenance, referee and uniform costs.  In addition we are providing more coaching clinics/materials and training sessions.  The club operates on registration fees collected by our participants.  We strive to keep our fees low while providing the best program for our players.  We want everyone to have the opportunity to play soccer.

  • Can I request a coach?  Can my child play on the same team as his friend?

Answer:  Due to the large number of players participating in the various programs, specific requests to play with a friend or for a coach cannot be honored. If you really want your child to play on the same team with their friend, you and your child's friend's parent should sign up to head coach and assistant coach the same team. Parents will need to volunteer to coach prior to June 1. This will guarantee placement of the two players on the same team. However, each team is limited to one head coach and one assistant coach.

  • How are teams formed?

Answer:  Teams are formed based on the geographical location of the players.  Every effort is made to keep players and coaches in the same area.  However, depending on the amount of coaching volunteers we receive and their location some players could find that they do not live in the same area as their coach.  The only guarantee is if the parent signs up to coach.

  • What if I want to coach my child’s team?

Answer:  Our organization depends on volunteer parent coaches to support league play.  New coaches are not required to have sport –specific knowledge and can attend a variety of coach education sessions prior to the beginning of the season.  Please, visit the coach’s page for more information.

  • What is the youngest/oldest a child can play?

Answer:  A player must be at least 4 and cannot turn 19 before July 31st.

  • What age group would my child play in?

Answer:  Refer to the 2009 fall season Age Group Chart.

  • Can my child play up?

Answer:  EDYSL encourages all players to stay within their age group.  Special considerations must have approval and can only be one year up.

  • When are games played and how long is the season?

Answer:  Most games are played primarily on Saturdays, especially with our younger age groups.  We do have a few mid week games and some Sunday games.  The season officially starts with Opening Day on August 1, 2009 and ends mid November.

  • What equipment do I need?

Answer:  Players must have shin guards and soccer cleats to wear to all games and practices.  Uniforms for the Rec program are included.  Players are encouraged to bring a ball to practice.

  • Why do I have to provide a mother’s birth date?

Answer:  This date is used for identification purposes and will be the last 4 digits of your child’s ID.

  • Where can I find more information?

Answer:  Please be sure to sign up for our newsletter for all the latest events and news!  Check the website as that is the best source for information.  Throughout the season we will send emails to all our members.  Make sure your email is up to date.
